Breaking Barriers: How Rohan’s Passion for Healthcare Led to Chicago Booth

Hailing from the city of Ajmer, also known as the heart of Rajasthan, Rohan’s early years were shaped by diverse experiences living across multiple parts of the country due to his mother’s government job that required frequent relocation. Losing his father at a young age, he became acutely aware of the harsher realities of the healthcare infrastructure in the country.

Raised in a single-parent household, from a young age Rohan took on different roles within the household to support his mother, whether that was managing chores or the family’s finances. Dabbling into household expense management and researching and planning investments for his mom sparked curiosity in Rohan about economic systems and their impact on households and businesses.

With an inclination towards economics, Rohan pursued his undergraduate studies at IIT Bombay, majoring in Economics, quite an unusual choice of subject for someone entering a Technology school. During his undergrad, he interned with Nomura Research Institute. This internship exposed him to the world of consulting, which was quite enthralling for him. It also piqued his interest in business strategy and problem-solving, propelling him to realize the potential of combining economics with strategic thinking to build a career in consulting.

After graduating, Rohan joined BCG, where he worked across cases spanning healthcare, industrial goods, energy, and consumer goods. While working on the healthcare cases, he realized that he wanted to solve the problem of healthcare accessibility to change the state of our country’s healthcare infrastructure.

This realization led him to transition into a strategy role at Abbott, where he developed growth strategies for healthcare brands, spearheaded international expansion efforts, and identified new product opportunities for the domestic market. This experience reinforced his passion for healthcare strategy and his desire to take on leadership roles in the industry.

While working at Abbott, Rohan interacted with several senior colleagues pursuing an MBA at top business schools. Their experiences inspired him to explore how an MBA could accelerate his career and provide him with the leadership skills necessary for his long-term goals. He recognized that an MBA would give him the right skills for global leadership and team management in healthcare.

Working with Rajdeep at Admissions Gateway, he applied to a couple of M7 business schools in Round 1. Rohan’s meticulous preparation, combined with Rajdeep’s guidance, led to impressive results. He secured admission to the Chicago Booth School of Business with a $100,000 merit-based scholarship.

In the long term, Rohan aspires to build a career in investing, utilizing his deep strategy and operational experiences paired with an MBA from Booth that would allow him to develop strong financial acumen and leadership skills.
