Anshul’s Journey: From IIT to Kellogg with a Vision for FinTech

Anshul is a determined, focused, and goal-oriented person. His clarity of vision and a go-getter attitude are cornerstones of his success throughout his career.

His mother is a science teacher, and his father practices chartered accountancy. Being exposed to the passions of his parents, Anshul was immersed in the wonders of science and mathematics from an early age. Interestingly, as a child, Anshul explored advanced concepts such as constellations and read books meant for much older students.

This early love for learning shaped his academic path. By the 10th grade, while many of his friends were still exploring career options, Anshul already knew that he wanted to pursue something that was an intersection of technology and business.

After high school, Anshul secured admission to IIT Bombay, India’s premier institution for engineering. As a Mechanical Engineering student, he thrived in a competitive environment and was involved in multiple projects that spiked his interest in artificial intelligence and finance. The vibrant campus life at IIT Bombay enabled him to engage with a diverse peer group, cultivating a spirit of collaboration and leadership that he carries forward to this day.

After graduating from college, Anshul began his professional career at Barclays. There, he worked in the Collateral Optimization Unit, managing risk and optimizing client collateral. Identifying his desire to work on impactful and strategic projects, he eventually transitioned to Amazon as a Research Scientist. At Amazon, he leveraged AI to improve product rankings, gaining insights into how technology could drive business transformation.

These experiences reinstated Anshul’s drive for FinTech, where his vision was to merge his technical expertise with innovative business strategies to address complex financial challenges. Anshul viewed an MBA as the ideal platform to gain the strategic skills and global perspective required to grow in the rapidly evolving FinTech space. The decision to do an MBA also stemmed from his long-term goal of building a career that combined entrepreneurship and technology.

Starting his application journey like most folks, Anshul began preparing for GMAT. He prepared by himself and achieved a decent score. However, the score was not strong enough for the schools he dreamed of applying to. That’s when he connected with Shweta, the Chief Academic Mentor at Your Score by Admissions Gateway, fine-tuned his preparation and ultimately secured an impressive 750.

Working with Aparna as his consultant, Anshul articulated his vision of leveraging AI in FinTech. She worked closely with him to refine his resume, helping him better structure his achievements and highlighting business impact. Aparna’s iterative process pushed him to delve deeper into his past experiences to find insights and anecdotes that would resonate with the business school.

Anshul credits Aparna for helping him navigate the MBA interviews through mock interview sessions, which allowed him to become a stronger and more structured storyteller.

Anshul’s perseverance and dedicated preparation helped him get an acceptance from Kellogg, where he now aims to deepen his expertise in FinTech and explore entrepreneurial ventures that leverage AI for transformative impact.
