Check Out How This Product Manager at Goldman Sachs Made It To Wharton

Born and raised in New Delhi, Karmanya Oberoi grew up in a family rooted in education and technology. His father, a software engineer, inspired in him a fascination with computers and programming, while his mother, an economics professor at Delhi University, cultivated intellectual curiosity.

From an early age, his love for dance and theater defined him. Performing in the spotlight on stage or collaborating with fellow students to pursue something creative brought him fulfillment. He often cherishes the thrill of performing in front of an audience as one of his life’s greatest joys.

As he progressed in school, his passion for technology grew further, cementing his resolve to pursue an undergraduate degree in engineering. Securing admission to Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology in New Delhi, he developed deep knowledge in the field and published multiple research papers on artificial intelligence while also staying committed to his love for the arts.

During his initial years, he joined the Western Dance Society, Mirage, where he built lasting friendships and learned the value of teamwork and discipline. Following this, he discovered a new passion – theatre and participated in multiple dramatic competitions at various prestigious institutions. Meeting students from diverse backgrounds expanded his worldview and taught him cultural adaptability. By the final year, Karmanya became the Vice President of the college’s dramatic society.

After completing his bachelor’s degree, Karmanya joined Goldman Sachs as a software engineer. In his initial years, he contributed to building cloud and API platforms that enabled the company to externalize its internal technology capabilities. As his career progressed, Karmanya transitioned into a project management role, leading teams across three countries and time zones. Collaborating closely with senior leaders, he gained exposure to strategic decision-making processes and developed a deeper understanding of how technology drives business outcomes.

However, amidst his professional growth, Karmanya realized that while he had good technical expertise, he lacked a good understanding of business fundamentals like finance, marketing, and strategy. This realization planted the seed for his MBA aspirations.

At Admissions Gateway, the structured workshops, resume reviews, and strategic insights highlighted the unique strengths of his application. “The big USP of the workshops is they put a method to the madness,” remarked Karmanya. Through his hard work, Karmanya secured admission to Columbia Business School, and then he set his sights on Wharton. Working through numerous essay iterations and intense interview preparations, Karmanya’s dedication paid off. He not only secured admission to Wharton but also earned the prestigious Joseph Wharton Fellowship.

At Wharton, Karmanya aims to leverage his technical background and business acumen to address a critical gap he discovered at Goldman Sachs: the lack of accessible, user-friendly wealth management solutions for millennials and Gen Z in India.
